WHAT IS A RITUAL
Rituals are a way of creating meaning by combining intention with action. They’re symbolic arts, performed mindfully, that engage our emotions. They can be used in our everyday lives to consciously connect with ourselves and our purpose.
Mindfulness is the key. If you make yourself a cup of tea in the morning to drink as you scroll your socials and get ready for work, that’s a habit. But if you were to put aside time to make yourself a cup of tea, take pleasure in the process of making it and enjoying it mindfully, that is a ritual.
In ritual, the action has a deeper meaning than its surface appearance. A tea ritual is an invitation to a moment of calm and stillness; an intention to recenter and reconnect with the self amid the rush of a bust day. The same can be said for burning some inscense or a short breath practise.
Habits and routines are performed on autopilot. When you create a ritua, you’re making a conscious decision about where you want to play your attention.
What we pay attention to is what we bring into our lives.
