WHY RITUALS WORK
Research has shown that rituals in the face of loss help us cope with grief better, and rituals performed before performance or practise improve the practise.
Whilst the science doest know exactly how the alchemy works, but what seems to matter is that we name it as a ritual and we actually do it and don’t just think about doing it.
This simple yet powerful combination of intention and action provides a sense of control by imposing order to chaos of everyday life. Some rituals like pouring salt or sand, burning slips of paper, chanting invocations my seem slightly out there but the practicality of the action is not related to the use-fulness of the ritual. If it helps to calms anxiety, focus the attention, soothe the emotions, then that’s what matters.
Anything and everything could be done as a ritual.
Think of the quirky pre-performance rituals of entertainers. Embracing rituals, no matter how silly they may seem, helps us build sefl confidence and manifest our intentions.
